Sync your Apple Watch

RunBuddy reads the runs your Apple Watch records through Apple Health, and sends your planned sessions back to the watch. There is no separate RunBuddy app to run on your wrist.

Connect Apple Health

On first launch RunBuddy asks for access to Apple Health. Allow these so your plan and readiness score have what they need:

  • Workouts and routes, for distance, pace and GPS
  • Heart rate, for zones and training load
  • HRV and resting heart rate, for readiness
  • Sleep, for readiness

Your plan on your watch

Each planned session syncs to the Workout app on your Apple Watch as a custom workout, with warm-up, intervals, pace targets and cool-down. Start it from the Workout app like any other workout. Your watch tells you when to speed up or ease off.

Why there’s no RunBuddy watch app

Apple’s Workout app is built into watchOS and handles GPS and heart rate more efficiently than a third-party app, so your battery lasts longer. Apple updates it with the system, so there is nothing extra to keep up to date.

Recording with another app

If you record with another app, RunBuddy picks up your runs as long as that app saves them to Apple Health. A workout counts toward a planned session when it’s on the same day and the same sport.

After the run

Your run appears in RunBuddy shortly after it reaches Apple Health. The plan adapts to what you actually ran, and the coach sees it in its next reply.
