Terms of Service
Last updated October 28, 2026
These terms govern your use of RunBuddy ("RunBuddy", "we", "us"): the web app, the mobile app, the AI coach, the public API and the MCP integration (together, the "service"). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use RunBuddy.
How we handle your personal data is described separately in our Privacy Policy. Questions about these terms: [email protected].
1. Not medical advice
RunBuddy is a training tool, not a medical device. Training plans, readiness and load metrics, heart-rate zones and everything the AI coach says are general fitness information based on the data you provide. They are not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
- Talk to a doctor before starting a new training program, especially if you have a health condition, are pregnant, or haven't exercised in a while.
- Stop training and get medical help if you feel pain, dizziness, chest discomfort or shortness of breath beyond normal exertion. For injury or illness, see a doctor or physiotherapist.
- You decide what you actually do. Training carries an inherent risk of injury, and you exercise at your own risk. Watch traffic and your surroundings when running or riding outdoors — never interact with the app in a way that puts you or others in danger.
2. The AI coach
The coach uses a large language model to generate replies from your messages and training data. AI output can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, even when it sounds confident. Check anything important before relying on it, and treat suggested plan changes as proposals, not instructions. Don't use the coach for emergencies.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 16 years old to use RunBuddy.
- Give accurate information when you sign up, and keep your password, API keys and connected apps secure. You're responsible for activity on your account, including actions taken by API clients or AI assistants you authorize.
- Tell us at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized access. You can revoke API keys and connected apps in Settings at any time.
- One person per account. Accounts aren't transferable.
4. Your content
Your workouts, GPS tracks, plans, notes, coach conversations and other data you add stay yours. You give us a limited licence to store, process and display that content only as needed to run the service for you — for example, computing your analytics or sending your messages to our AI provider when you use the coach. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account. You can export everything (Settings → Data) and delete your account (Settings → Account) at any time.
Content you deliberately share with other users, such as exercises you add to the shared exercise library, may stay visible to others after you remove your account, without your name attached.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break the law or infringe anyone else's rights through the service;
- access other users' data, probe or bypass our security, rate limits or usage limits, or reverse-engineer the hosted service beyond what the open-source code already allows;
- overload the service, scrape it, or use the API or MCP integration in ways that degrade it for others;
- create multiple accounts to get around free-tier limits such as the free coach message allowance;
- upload malware or unlawful, abusive or misleading content, including in the shared exercise library;
- resell or sublicense access to the hosted service.
6. Free tier and Coach Pro
RunBuddy has a free tier. Coach Pro is an optional paid subscription that unlocks additional features, as described in the app at the time you subscribe.
- Coach Pro is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple handles payment, renewal, cancellation and refunds under its own terms. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them in your Apple account settings; cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep access until the end of the current period.
- Prices are shown in the App Store before you buy. If we change the price, Apple will tell you in advance as required by its rules.
- We may change which features are in the free tier or Coach Pro. If a change removes something you've paid for, it won't take effect before the end of your current paid period.
7. Third-party services
RunBuddy works with services we don't control: Apple Health and the App Store, Google and Apple sign-in, your organization's SSO provider, our AI provider, and AI assistants you connect via MCP. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms, and we aren't responsible for their availability or behaviour. Data imported from your watch or Apple Health is only as accurate as the device that recorded it.
8. Open source
RunBuddy's source code is published on GitHub. Use of the code itself is governed by the licence in that repository, not by these terms. These terms apply to the hosted service we run.
9. Availability and changes
We work to keep RunBuddy running reliably, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may add, change or remove features, and we may suspend the service for maintenance. If we ever shut the hosted service down, we'll give reasonable advance notice so you can export your data.
10. Suspension and termination
You can stop using RunBuddy and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or where we're required to by law. Where reasonable, we'll tell you why first and give you a chance to export your data.
11. Liability
The service is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, for lost data you could have exported, or for injuries resulting from training decisions you make using the service.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for intent or gross negligence, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
12. Changes to these terms
If we make material changes to these terms, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using RunBuddy after that, the updated terms apply. If you don't agree, you can delete your account.
