Holding the same pace is not a prediction
Pace slows as distance grows. For a realistic finish time at a longer race, use the race predictor.

See a sample planHow pace is calculated
Pace is time divided by distance. A 50:00 finish over 10 km is 3,000 seconds ÷ 10 km = 300 seconds per kilometre, or 5:00 /km. Speed is the same number the other way round: 3,600 seconds in an hour ÷ 300 seconds per kilometre = 12.0 km/h.
To get pace per mile, multiply the pace per kilometre by 1.609344, because one mile is 1.609344 km. To go back, divide by 1.609344. The calculator does this on every keystroke and rounds to the nearest second.
Worked example: a 3:30 marathon
A marathon is 42.195 km. 3:30:00 is 12,600 seconds, and 12,600 ÷ 42.195 = 298.6 seconds per kilometre, which rounds to 4:59 /km. Multiply by 1.609344 and you get 480.6 seconds, or 8:01 /mi. That pace is 12.1 km/h.

Pace needed for common goal times
These are the average paces that finish exactly on the goal time. Aim a few seconds per kilometre faster to leave a margin.

Questions
How do I convert min/km to min/mile?
Multiply your pace per kilometre by 1.609344. For example, 5:00 /km is 300 seconds × 1.609344 = 483 seconds, or 8:03 /mi. To convert the other way, divide by 1.609344.
How do I calculate running pace?
Divide your total time in seconds by the distance in kilometres. A 25:00 5K is 1,500 ÷ 5 = 300 seconds per kilometre, so 5:00 /km.
What pace do I need for a sub-2 hour half marathon?
You need an average of 5:41 /km, which is 9:09 /mi. The distance is 21.0975 km, so 7,200 seconds ÷ 21.0975 = 341 seconds per kilometre.
What pace is a 4 hour marathon?
Also 5:41 /km or 9:09 /mi. A marathon is exactly twice the half marathon distance, so doubling the time keeps the pace the same.
Can I use my 5K pace for a marathon?
No. Pace slows as distance grows, so holding 5K pace for 42 km is not realistic. Use the race time predictor for a finish time that allows for it.
